Are Essential Oils Safe for Children

Natural essential oils are increasing in popularity due to the incredible benefits they can have on your body and mind. There are many ways to use them, and they are very easy to incorporate into your everyday routine. Each oil is unique, and there are many to choose from, so it’s best to try a few of the most commonly used oils and see what works best for your body. But the question that every parent has is this: Can I use essential oil for children? Some parents are already using essential oils with their kids because they help to improve sleep, ease anxiety, reduce pain and more. Although essential oils can be beneficial for children, it’s important to know how to use them safely. Here are five tips to follow when using essential oils for children.

Don’t Use Undiluted Oils On The Skin

Undiluted oils are just too strong to use on their own and are very dangerous to children. They must be diluted, or you risk burning the skin, developing a severe rash or even an allergic reaction.

Make Sure To Perform A Patch Test

You can still have an allergic reaction to a diluted essential oil. If you are using an oil on your child for the first time, be sure to perform a patch test on a clean, dry part of the skin and monitor for 24 hours before using again.

Don’t Let Your Children Eat Essential Oils

Despite the incredible health benefits essential oils have when used aromatically or when applied to the skin, they are poisonous when ingested. Do not let your children eat them, even a small amount can hurt them.

Make Sure To Store Your Essential Oils In A Safe Place

Although it seems like kids can get into just about anything, you need to keep your natural essential oils far away from their hands. It would be dangerous if they put it on their skin or ingested. Keep all your oils together, and out of reach.

Don’t Overuse Essential Oils

You can use essential oils for children, but don’t overdo it. When it doubt, less is more!
